Although we are newcomers compared to many of our neighbors, we have developed a strong tie to this community. And we want to give back, to leverage our skills and knowledge in emergency management to help with the emergency preparedness and resiliency in the Knights Valley area. We’ve already started with the neighborhood GMRS groups in Knights and Franz Valleys and installing the Knights Valley GMRS repeater on Pepperwood Preserve.
In addition to helping promote and develop a valley-wide fuels management and preparedness plan, we are spearheading the Knights Valley neighborhood response group, made up residents that can pool resources and respond during fires and other natural disasters affecting Knights Valley. This, coupled with an effective valley-wide emergency preparedness strategy, greatly reduces the risk of loss during a major event. Together we can make a huge difference until emergency responders get into the valley. During major events we are really on own, and having a neighborhood response group will be a game changer. This is also going to be an advantage when renewing with your insurance carriers. And we are continuing to work with our local fire district on how to best integrate with their response in the valley.
Different ways you can participate include getting your GMRS or ham radio licenses and participating in the weekly Knights Valley GMRS neighborhood Net, joining the Knights Valley CERT (Community Emergency Response Team), getting wildland firefighting credentials, and joining the Sonoma CART (Community Animal Response Team). All of these options give basic level training and valuable skillsets to safely respond if there’s an emergency or natural disaster in our area, while focusing on areas you can help the best. You can also participate in control burns at Pepperwood Preserve or through the Good Fire Alliance to learn and develop better fuels management skills.. And we are here to help you with every step, check out our Knights Valley neighborhood response group page or contact us for more information.
